BoostDigiCulture - A sustainable framework for improving the digital upskilling of adult cultural professionals

The cultural and creative sector is one of the most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Many cultural institutions, such as museums, galleries and libraries, had to make a rapid transition to digital visitor services. But this revealed the vulnerabilities that already existed before: lacking or low digital skills of cultural professionals. Small and medium-sized cultural institutions in particular have a great need, as they lack the resources, knowledge and skills to complete a comprehensive digital transformation. This is where the BoostDigiCulture project comes in.

The goal of BoostDigiCulture is to create a sustainable and inclusive professional development framework to promote digital literacy among cultural professionals with limited digital skills. A particular focus lies on small and medium-sized cultural institutions in the partner countries.

Within the framework of the project, various products will be created that build on one another and complement each other:

  • The development of an e-learning platform that offers digital cultural affinity spaces. The platform allows cultural practitioners and institutions to participate in peer-to-peer mentoring through virtual workshops on a transnational level.
  • A Professional Digital Competence Profile will be used to define which digital competencies cultural workers in small and medium-sized cultural institutions need. A professional development framework for the digital training of employees will be developed, which cultural institutions can use to respond to the digital transformation and the transition to digital offerings in the cultural sector.
  • The elaboration of a Microlearning upskilling programme. Using a customized course for the target group, skills will be taught that will enable participants to produce and curate digital content and thus improve the digital strategy of institutions.
  • The development of a self-assessment tool, that allows cultural professionals to make an assessment of their competences and knowledge to integrate a digital culture in the agenda of their institution.

The project will reach over 400 cultural professionals. Over 60 people will go through the micro-learning upskilling programme by participating in the course. Twelve of these participants will take part in a learning activity workshop.

Role of the Digital Opportunities Foundation

The Digital Opportunities Foundation is the coordinator of the project consortium and is responsible for administrative and financial as well as operational project management. It is also responsible for the development of the microlearning upskilling programme.
